Mulan¶
Mulan is an animated musical film from Disney based upon the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan. As implied by the popular song from the film, I’ll Make a Man Out of You, masculinity is a core theme of the movie, with Fa Mulan taking her father’s place for conscription in the imperial army.

What traditionally masculine traits did Mulan exhibit in the movie, such as protecting her father?
2. Select at least on way in which masculinity norms impeded the characters in the film. Discuss how a less strict adherence to masculinity norms could have been beneficial.
3. Traits and behaviors associated with masculinity can overlap with those of femininity. Discuss at least one trait that Mulan exhibits that can be seen as traditionally masculine or traditionally feminine.
